Itron products available on Waterfitters
Single jet turbine water meters: Flodis and Unimag+.
The Flodis and Unimag+ models form the backbone of Itron's residential offering. Both use single jet turbine technology combined with an extra-dry register: no part of the totaliser is in contact with the water flow, thanks to high-performance magnetic transmission. This design ensures consistently accurate readings and protects the counting mechanism from wear and contamination.
Flodis is designed for the residential billing market and is the reference model for reliability across a wide range of installation conditions. Available in various nominal sizes (DN), it can be supplied with a mineral glass register and copper housing for perfect readability even in demanding environments. Itron is recognised as the world leader in single jet metering, and the Flodis embodies that technical excellence.
Unimag+ is the definitive domestic water meter, made of brass and designed specifically for apartment and residential applications. It is Cyble-ready, meaning it can be converted into a remote communication device at any time simply by adding a module, with no need to replace the meter.
Single jet meter for commercial and industrial applications: Flostar M.
The Flostar M is Itron's solution for commercial and industrial metering, available in sizes from DN40 to DN150. Also based on single jet technology, it stands out for one of the widest measuring ranges in its category: it excels at measuring very low flows while also handling high flows effectively, making it ideal for complex metering point analysis and data logging. Originally approved to EEC 75/33/ISO 4064-1 Class C — the first meter in this category — it is now certified MID 2004/22/EC (MI 001) and ready for interfacing with Itron AMR systems.
The reference smart ultrasonic meter: Intelis wSource.
The Intelis wSource represents the most advanced technology in the entire Itron range: a third-generation smart ultrasonic water meter built on over 25 years of solid-state metering experience. It is the first and only meter on the market to hold MID certification for accuracy class R1000 — the highest field ratio available — guaranteeing precise measurement even at very low flows where traditional mechanical meters lose accuracy.
Thanks to its solid-state technology, the Intelis wSource has no moving parts: virtually zero maintenance and stable performance throughout its service life, even in challenging conditions such as hard water, extreme temperatures or intermittent water supply. The integrated battery is designed for up to 20 years of operation.
For connectivity, it natively supports both AMR and AMI: wM-Bus bidirectional for walk-by/drive-by reading, LoRaWAN and Sigfox for fixed IoT networks (no additional gateway required), with integration into Itron's Temetra® cloud platform or third-party systems. The system generates actionable data: hourly consumption logging, flow distribution monitoring, leakage quantification, customer profiling and configurable alarms for backflow, pipe freezing, tampering and abnormal consumption. IP68 protection for installation in water pits.
Remote reading sensors and modules: Cyble Sensor and Cyble 5.
Alongside the meters, Waterfitters offers Itron's Cyble sensor family, designed to enable Automated Meter Reading (AMR) without physical access to the meter.
The Cyble Sensor is an electronic pulse emitter installed on Cyble-ready meters. It generates perfectly square-wave pulses, is immune to external magnetic fields, detects flow direction including backflow, and signals cable cuts or sensor removal — providing anti-tamper protection.
The Cyble 5 is the latest-generation communication module, compatible with the entire Itron mechanical meter range. Its patented Cyble technology ensures perfect correlation between the mechanical register and the digital index, supporting open standard protocols: wM-Bus for mobile AMR, LoRaWAN, Sigfox and OMSv4 for fixed IoT networks. Interoperable with the vast majority of existing data collection platforms.

The benefits of remote reading and smart metering.
For water utilities and network operators, automated data collection drastically reduces the cost of manual readings, improves billing accuracy and enables early detection of leaks and anomalies. Some implementation projects have reported water revenue increases of over 10% following migration to smart metering systems.
For installers and system designers, the Itron range offers standardised, MID-certified solutions integrated with the leading data management platforms, simplifying design, installation and maintenance.
For end users, near-real-time access to consumption data promotes more conscious and sustainable use of water resources.
Where and how they are installed.
Itron meters are installed on water supply pipes, typically in a horizontal position, in underground pits, technical ducts or meter rooms. The IP68 register rating makes them suitable for humid environments subject to condensation. Cyble sensors are mounted directly onto the lid of the compatible meter, without interrupting the water column, connected via screened cable to a local data collection unit or an IoT gateway.
A partnership set to grow.
The collaboration with Itron is new for Waterfitters but already set to expand. The current range — Flodis, Unimag+, Flostar M, Intelis wSource, Cyble Sensor and Cyble 5 — is the starting point of an offer that will grow progressively to meet the needs of installers, distributors and utilities across Italy and beyond.

FAQ - Itron water meters
What is the difference between a mechanical water meter and an ultrasonic smart meter like the Intelis wSource?
A mechanical single jet meter — such as the Flodis or Unimag+ — measures water volume through the rotation of a turbine driven by the flow. It is a proven, reliable and cost-effective technology suited to the vast majority of residential installations. The extra-dry register, separated from the hydraulic section by magnetic transmission, ensures long service life and consistently legible readings. An ultrasonic meter like the Intelis wSource works without moving parts: it measures the transit time of ultrasonic pulses through the water to calculate flow with extreme precision, up to accuracy class R1000 — the highest MID-certified level currently available on the market. This makes it particularly effective at measuring very low flow rates, where mechanical meters tend to lose precision. Furthermore, the Intelis wSource integrates native IoT connectivity (LoRaWAN, Sigfox, wM-Bus), eliminating the need for additional sensors for remote reading.
Can I add remote reading to an already-installed water meter without replacing it?
Yes, and this is one of the key strengths of the Itron ecosystem. The Flodis and Unimag+ meters feature native Cyble readiness: simply fit a Cyble Sensor or Cyble 5 module onto the existing meter — without interrupting the water supply or carrying out any hydraulic work — to immediately enable automated data reading. The Cyble Sensor transmits electronic pulses to a local collection system, while the Cyble 5 supports standard wireless protocols such as LoRaWAN, Sigfox and wM-Bus for integration into AMR and AMI networks. This approach protects existing investment and allows the metering network to be digitised progressively, in line with the operator's schedule and budget.
What communication protocols do Itron meters and sensors available on Waterfitters support?
The Itron range on Waterfitters covers the full spectrum of communication technologies used in water data collection systems today. The Cyble Sensor transmits electronic pulses via cable to local dataloggers or control units. The Cyble 5 supports wM-Bus for mobile reading (walk-by and drive-by) and LoRaWAN, Sigfox and OMSv4 for fixed IoT networks, where data is automatically and continuously transmitted to cloud platforms such as Itron's Temetra®. The Intelis wSource integrates bidirectional wM-Bus, LoRaWAN and Sigfox directly into the meter body, with no additional modules required. All protocols are open and interoperable with the leading third-party data management systems, ensuring maximum flexibility for integration with existing or new AMR and AMI infrastructures.
Are Itron meters suitable for installation in underground pits or damp environments?
Yes. The register on all Itron models is IP68 certified, meaning it is fully watertight even under prolonged submersion — an essential feature for meters installed in underground pits that may be subject to temporary flooding or rising groundwater. Brass models also offer high mechanical resistance to the impacts and stresses typical of installation in technical ducts or service tunnels. The Intelis wSource has been specifically tested to operate in challenging environmental conditions, including hard water, significant temperature variations and intermittent water supply, maintaining its accuracy throughout the battery life — rated at up to 20 years.
How do I choose the right Itron water meter size for my installation?
The choice of model and size depends primarily on three factors: type of application, expected flow rate and remote reading requirements. For individual domestic connections, DN15 is the standard size in the vast majority of cases, available in both the Flodis and the Unimag+. For residential buildings with multiple units served by a single main meter, or for commercial connections with higher consumption, sizes DN20 or DN25 are appropriate. For distribution networks, industrial users or network entry points with significant flow rates, the Flostar M in sizes DN40 to DN150 is the reference solution. The water temperature should also be considered: standard models are optimised for cold water, and for hot water applications it is necessary to verify the temperature class of the selected model. The Waterfitters sales team is available to help identify the most suitable product for each specific installation.
